Gauteng Provincial Government and Lulaway tackle unemployment head on
The Gauteng Provincial Government and Lulaway are removing the barrier to entry for job seekers attempting to find formal employment in the entry and semi-skilled sectors by opening 20 employment centres in Gauteng by March 2013.
On the 28th June 2012, Gauteng Premier Nomvula Mokonyane, the Department of Health and Social Development and Lulaway will host a breakfast where business leaders will be presented with the opportunity to invest in the future of South Africa through employment. Following this, twenty government-funded Lulaway booths will be opened in various government centres throughout Gauteng before the end of the financial year.
”While there are jobs available, the demand for these positions far exceeds the availability, and selecting the right people for these jobs becomes difficult if not near impossible,” says Errol Freeman, MD of Lulaway. “Providing job seekers with a more efficient way to access the employer and for the employer to access a much larger pool of screened candidates is what sets Lulaway apart.”
The Lulaway system takes the efficient internet job-board to the next level by creating a virtual platform with job-centre networks on the ground. Job-seekers can visit centres located in their near vicinity where consultants will construct a CV, scan relevant documentation and take photographs. Applicants are put through rigorous screening and testing, designed to test skills, knowledge, aptitude and corporate fit. These tests can be generic or individually customised.
This information is filtered through to an online database and professionally presented in an accessible, manageable, usable format. An SMS facility is then provided to clients to communicate with applicants, individually or en mass at the touch of a button.
”The only other existing infrastructure in the country that comes close to supplying this level of efficiency in this market is the labour broker. However, Lulaway provides a more politically acceptable, digitally-sophisticated, modern and cost-effective (for the job-seeker and corporate) system. It is a sustainable platform designed to bridge the divide between employer and job seeker,” says Errol.
