Some people love the holiday season, while others consider it a bit stressful. You might like spending time with your family, but you might worry about how to make more money to pay for gifts they’ll enjoy. We’ve come up with four ways to make more money this holiday season that we’ll cover below.
Drive for a Rideshare Company
As the holidays approach, you might find yourself checking your credit card statements, and perhaps you don’t like what you see. Maybe you’re not able to pay off the balance on each card, and you have to carry some of it over to the next period. If so, you might look at tools like a debt reduction calculator to determine the fastest ways to pay off those balances.
Another option might be driving for a rideshare company like Uber or Lyft to make more money. If you have a car that’s fairly new and in good condition, you can go on their websites and look into whether this might be the right move.
The nice thing about driving for Lyft or Uber is that your schedule is extremely flexible. Even if you have a job already, you can pick up a couple of shifts per week when it’s convenient for you.
The one caveat if you’re going to work for a rideshare company is that you should be a confident driver. If you’re not the best at driving in the rain or snow or prefer to avoid highways, this probably isn’t the optimal way to earn extra cash.
Become a Dog Walker and Pet Sitter
Dog walking and pet sitting are a couple of other options that can bring in some much-needed extra cash during the holiday season. You might put up flyers around the neighborhood advertising your services, or sign up with a pet-sitting app.
If you’re good with animals, you can walk dogs during the day or in the evenings, whenever the owners are at work. If any families or individuals are going out of town for the holidays, you can take care of their cat, fish, or other pets while they are away.
You’re not going to make piles of extra money this way, but it can still be a solid source of supplemental income. If you want to do this, you must be friendly with the people who are considering hiring you, and you’ll need to establish a rapport with their furry friends as well.
Work as a Delivery Driver
Working as a delivery driver is something else you can do to make some extra holiday cash. Like working for Lyft or Uber, the pandemic has brought about a rise in this type of supplemental work.
A company such as Walmart, Target, or Amazon might hire you for delivery services. This is ideal if you need temporary work that does not require a lot of additional training. Like with rideshare programs, having a working vehicle and being a responsible driver are the main requirements.
Help People Assemble Things
Some people struggle to put together furniture and other items they order online that come to them in pieces. If you have skilled hands, you may put them to use as an assembler for hire.
You can put up fliers around the neighborhood, and you can advertise on social media as well. You might help individuals put together sheds, dressers, tables, or anything else that requires assembly.
You Might Have Several of These Side Gigs
It is more common now for many people to have side gigs in addition to their regular jobs. Around the holidays, if you need more money for gifts and family gatherings, you might try one of the methods, or more than one. Anything that doesn’t require much additional training and has schedule flexibility should serve you well in this season.
